I too approached it with a measure of interest, trepidation and excitement.
\n
\nHaving done a BA and honours in the last four years I found the clip of Ken Robinson not as fascinating as some others, havign become regulary used to video clips of inspiring and thought provoking lecturers over the years.
\n
\nThe area that I found of the most interest was the question about what type of teacher you wanted to be. This really focused me, and made me realise that by this time next year I will (hopefully) be a qualified teacher, and maybe a CRT or even have my own class.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"12967173","dateCreated":"1245896656","smartDate":"Jun 24, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"Latrobedeltaforce","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Latrobedeltaforce","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/latrobedeltaforce.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/12967173"},"dateDigested":1531977513,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Reflections","description":"This was to be our first lecture of the year for any of our subjects. It was a little daunting as I did not really know what the year was going to hold for me. This lecture was a brief introduction into the different types of teachers and an interesting talk by Sir Ken Robinson.
\n
\nThe first part of the lecture was based on what type of teacher you wanted to be. This was quite a thought provoking question. Personally, I want to be the best teacher I can be in all facets of the program. It was decided that to be an effective teacher was very important. This I thought was quite understandable and very practical.
\nTo be an effective teacher
\n- Effective teachers know how students learn and build on the knowledge their students already have
\n- Teachers have a strong grasp of the content of their discipline.
\n- They use teaching strategies matched to the learning styles and needs of their students to engage them with that content.
\n- Purposeful teachers contextualise their teaching practices. They centre their teaching on the experiences of their students, equipping them with knowledge and skills they can use
\nin everyday life.
\nI found that these were to be very true. This also gave me some basis as to what I might aspire to when I start teaching.
\n
\nThe second part of the lecture looked at a speech by Sir Ken Robinson. This was a very interesting speech. This I thought was a good way to break up the lecture rather. I found the speech was very engaging and talked a lot about children thinking creatively. This made me think of different strategies I could use to capture a child\u2019s imagination and different ways to introduce a topic.
\nOverall, I thought this was a great introduction for the year. I left the lecture with a number of questions to think about and other areas of learning I could look into.
